Author Interview About The God Slayers

Upon the release of my novel The God Slayers, Raymond Griffiths and Adam Bamford of Wicked Ink sent me several interview questions concerning my writing process for this novel. Mr. Griffiths and Mr. Bamford have graciously allowed me to share my answers with the Medium community.

Q: The God Slayers is a bold and evocative title. What does it mean within the context of the story, and how did you land on it as the opener to your series?

A: It’s a winding kind of story, really. My original idea was completely different, and the gods I used weren’t from mythology but rather ones I created. I started with the concept of Top Hat. Therefore, when I completely rewrote my first draft, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to keep the title. However, religion became a major part of the novel, as well as the difference between religion and nationalism.

My characters get stuck with the label “God Slayers” because of another character’s hate, and they have to decide whether they will be ashamed of that or wear it with pride. Therefore, I’d have to say one meaning of the title is tied to college hazing.
