About Me — Shearyaar Hussain
A UK medicine offer holder and A level tutor
Writing this on a scorching (at least for the UK) 27 degrees celsius Wednesday evening just after Georgia shocked Portugal in the final group game of Euro 2024. While I should be preparing to sleep in the hopes of successfully answering my 7AM alarm, I find myself contemplating England’s shocking tactics so far in the tournament as well as how I can best describe myself without sounding arrogant or dull.
If you haven’t noticed, I am a huge football fan — I’ve been watching since the tender age of 8 and it has consumed my life ever since. Unfortunately, being a Chelsea fan, I have become used to the feeling of disappointment.
However, my biggest experience of this thus far was my recent setback in my journey of becoming a doctor. Last year, I had my first application to study medicine rejected and honestly, it was a very humbling experience. After a lot of research and reflection, I decided to give it another go. This proved to be an amazing decision as I now have an offer to study my dream course, something that I thought would never happen 15 months ago.

As a result of the rejection of my first application, I took a gap year which has greatly shaped my character and outlook on life. After my medicine entrance exams, I went on a short family holiday to where I am originally from, Azad Kashmir. For those of you who don’t know, this is a highly disputed region between Pakistan and India consisting of beautiful mountains and a wonderful climate. Returning after more than 5 years, I was quickly reminded of the fortunate position I was in of not being worried about necessities like food, water and education.
After spending time with friends and family, I headed back to the UK where I continued my jobs of being an A level Tutor and working at a theme park, which I eventually stopped in January due to the imminent exam season.
Tutoring has helped me develop my communications skills as well as simplifying difficult concepts and given me an appreciation for education.
