About Me — Rilus Mahmud
DevOps enthusiast! Loves to work with maps!
Hi 👋 !
I’m Rilus! I’m so glad to introduce myself to you and very excited about writing something for the first time, and that’s started with about me!
I have the best birthday ever — December 25th! Yep, I share it with Jesus. I like to tell everyone that I gave the world a day of international holiday to celebrate my arrival. Sure, some religious folks might take it differently, but no offense intended! It’s just a bit of fun I have with my friends. As you can guess by my birthday, I’m Capricorn, which may or may not describe my personality, but I’m proud Capricorn.
I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with my whole family. I am passionate about travel—exploring new countries and learning about different cultures and lifestyles. Nature and demography also fascinate me, and as a mapping engineer, I’m always curious about map changes, address patterns, and how people interact with digital maps.
So far, I’ve visited Nepal, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. Many more to go…
Studies & Career
I’m currently a software engineering manager at Barikoi, a startup in Bangladesh. At Barikoi, I oversee and collaborate with 20 highly qualified engineers to do exciting stuff!
I completed my Bachelor’s from Khulna University in 2019 and joined Barikoi in February 2020.
At Barikoi, I started as an intern and began working with maps and routing. The journey was perfect for me, the tech, the bumps, and the ups and downs. So, the early stage of my career and the map stuff need a whole story alone. I’ll write about that soon, or at least try to write as much as I remember.

Now, I have a highly qualified team with me, and I love to do anything that interests me.
I love to do anything related to DevOps, automation, and servers. I also do a lot of R&D with maps and all the techs connected with map engineering.
I am passionate about solving real-world problems with tech or at least helping the mass people with technologies.
Hobbies & Interests
On the more myself part, I have some extracurricular activities like arranging events and managing blood donation campaigns.
I’m more into technology and management. I love managing or nursing people and learning from them every second.
I have been reading about tech-related and productivity-related topics on Medium for many days. After many years of reading and learning, I’ve decided to share my learning paths, struggles, successes, and stories with the world.
I want to share my work experiences, errors, and roller coaster journey through Medium. I’m just getting started!
I’m so sorry I didn’t share about my pet. I have a cat. Her name is “Toffee.” She has been with us for about two years. Dad gave her this name. So that makes me a cat person.
