I was born in a little town in the south of Peru. Although I am an only child, I grew up being the youngest of eleven cousins. Motivated by my desire to learn new things and discover new places I left my hometown after I finished school to become an economist. In my journey, I followed different paths and at some point I started working in development in my country, being that a turning point in my life, which I found the most interest in was the type of questions related to how to improve peoples’ well-being, especially for those left behind or with less opportunities. I’ve been living in the UK for the last three years, continuing my career in that path, while also trying to balance with my other passions, running, dancing and writing.
What do I expect to do here?
As I mentioned I work with numbers and statistics apply to social problems. What I want to share with you is how data and economics can be used to have a better understanding of daily life. This will cover economic intuition, data analysis and the use of quantitative methods, including machine learning, geo-spatial analysis, and how AI can play a role as well. The topics that I like are related to technology and its impact, how can we get the most of it, what are the benefits and risks. I am also interested on inequality, productivity, gender gap, innovation, and all the areas related to development. If that’s something that interest you stay tuned.
What moves me is my curiosity to learn new things, and I found on running a big motivation to exercise and enjoying being out. It’s something that I used to do occasionally but I started running actively since last year and now I’m preparing for my second marathon. My other passion is dancing salsa, and try to do it every week, being my way to disconnect from the world. I hope I can share some of these aspects of me as well and I’d love to find a way to connect them.
Thanks for reading, and see you around.
